Its modern definition is exact: 1 US fl oz = exactly 29.5735295625 ml, derived from 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 L and 128 fl oz per US gallon. Eight US fluid ounces make one US cup, 16 make one US pint, 32 a US quart, 128 a US gallon. The US fluid ounce is what you’ll see on US recipes, US beverage cans (a typical soda is “12 fl oz”), US cocktail recipes (“a 1.5 oz jigger”), and US packaged-liquid labels. The conversion formula

US fluid ounces = millilitres ÷ 29.5735295625. The reverse is multiplication by 29.5735295625. A worked example: a 500 ml water bottle converts to 500 ÷ 29.5735295625 = 16.907 US fl oz. A 250 ml coffee mug becomes 250 ÷ 29.5735295625 = 8.454 US fl oz. A 1 litre bottle is 1000 ÷ 29.5735295625 = 33.814 US fl oz. Because the US fluid ounce is defined by an exact ratio to the millilitre, the conversion is mathematically precise; any rounding you see is purely cosmetic truncation at the display step.
